Social Skills Groups for Kids

Interactive Social Skills Groups Help Children Connect

Children thrive when they feel connected. Our social skills groups enable children to meet new people while building confidence. Children learn to laugh, listen, and share in a playful and secure environment. Group sessions make sure that everyone feels heard and encouraged.

Helping Kids Build Friendships & Confidence

Social skills groups provide children with classes designed to teach them essential social skills such as making friends and handling everyday social situations. Children participate in playful activities designed to teach these vital lessons. Therapists assist children by scaffolding skills in real time which is the way children learn best.

What Are Social Skills Groups & How Do They Help?

Children participate in fun-filled sessions designed to teach these essential life lessons:

  • How to start conversations
  • How to listen properly
  • Understanding sharing and turn-taking

Our relaxed and friendly environment helps every child feel secure and learn new skills preparing them to face real-life challenges!

Signs Your Child May Benefit from a Social Skills Group

Sometimes it can be challenging to tell whether your child needs extra assistance with social skills development, so watch for these signs:

  • Hesitation to join group play
  • Shyness/fear in new social situations
  • Frustration in conversations or games
  • Meltdowns in social situations

Do these signs ring true for your child? Our social skills groups offer welcoming environments where your child can learn social skills while growing as an individual and making new friends.

Our Social Skills Group Programs

Our programs are customized for specific age groups and needs, to make learning enjoyable and interactive. These offerings include:

  •  Toddler & Me Exploration group for our youngest children ages 1.5-4 that focus on parent education, socialization, sensory exploration, and beginning fine and gross motor skills.
  • Developmental Playgroup for preschoolers ages 3-6 helps children develop their own play ideas and offers opportunities to interact and collaborate with peers.
  • Social Squad play group for ages 6-8  provides an ideal environment to practice social skills, make new friends, and learn to work as a team.
  • Gross Motor play group for ages 7-12 provides an opportunity for children to work together to create their own gross motor challenges such as games, races and obstacle courses all while learning to work together, accept others, and make new friends.  This group is great for kids who have extra energy and need to move their bodies.
  • Teenage Social group  for ages 12-22 provides an opportunity to work on the particular social difficulties older children face such as hygiene, dating, online safety and etiquette, easy meal prep, kitchen safety and basic household chores.

The highly skilled therapists and facilitators who oversee our programs make sure every child feels included, appreciated, supported, and involved in every session.

Frequently Asked Questions

A social skills group for children provides children with essential socialization techniques. Through fun group sessions, kids develop sharing, self advocacy, and play abilities boosting  these valuable life skills.

There can be various reasons behind a lack of these abilities – some include children being naturally shy while others simply lack opportunities to practice their skills. Social skills groups offer children a safe space where they can develop these abilities while a therapist is there to guide and scaffold the skills.

If your child tends to avoid group play, is overly shy or aggressive, or becomes overwhelmed in social situations, social skills groups can help.

Role-playing, scaffolding, team games/activities and art projects are excellent ways to develop social abilities among kids. Children practice and learn to share resources and resolve conflict effectively.

Autism Spectrum Disorder, ADHD and executive functioning disorder are some of the diagnoses that could impede developing social cues; however, most children simply require more practice with social interactions. Our social skills classes offer assistance and welcome all children who can benefit.
